I'm writing this journal to help artists who are searching for exposure.
Most of your art's first impressions are going to come from thumbnails. When you submit to a group and that groups gets 20 or 50 submissions a day your thumbnail is going to make all the difference.
When I'm going through my messages I often come across a lot of practically white thumbnails, which are usually pencil sketches. With so many messages, when I see these and I can't discern what they are I have to judge the picture by the title alone and if the title isn't really interesting I likely will delete the message from my inbox without seeing what it really was. I'm not suggesting to stop uploading sketches, but I am suggesting to make the lines clear. If this is a scan of a real sketch then go to an image editor and set the contrast very high. If this is a digital sketch then make the sketch with thick enough lines, don't make the lines pale or transparent.

Some rambling about DeviantArt
A long read about how DeviantArt isn't the art community it used to be. I don't know who's going to care enough to read it. DeviantArt seems empty and lifeless these days. I keep getting new watchers but the accounts are empty, they have no posts, journals, art or even profile descriptions. People aren't interacting with each other these days. The people who started watching me in the last month probably won't read or reply to this post. In the past every account I came across, whether artist or art appreciator, had personality. They had a lively description of themselves on their profile page, posted journals regularly, showed off their favorites with pride. These days, almost all of the people who bother to make their account look alive are only doing it to sell you something. I don't have a problem with artists trying to make a living on their art, but I think it's a mistake turning DeviantArt into a storefront, and I have a major problem with young teenagers just getting into

Check out @kirihane! Their art quality is so good but they hardly have any favorites or watchers. They draw a new high quality picture every single day, that is impressive. I think it's unfair that so much effort gets so little attention. Check out these beautiful pictures!
There's no point in complaining
I don't see why people are surprised, I already knew a year ago that this was going to happen.
It was inevitable that DeviantART was going to permanently switch to Eclipse. They've put a lot of time and money into it and as a software developer I can tell you that nobody likes maintaining two different codebases. Eventually they have to stick with one of the two versions and the one they were going to stick with was the one they had put so much time into.
I'm not going to complain because I know for certain that things are not going to change. It's not perfect, but it's good enough.
My only major issue with Eclipse is that they've built it
I don't care that some Pokemon are not returning
I honestly don't care if some of the old Pokemon aren't in the new game. In fact, 400 is quite a lot and more than I expected. If you dedicated each day of the year to one of the returning Pokemon you wouldn't have enough days. Then there are a ton of new ones on top of that. I liked Pokemon Black and White because you go through the entire game seeing only new Pokemon and none of the old ones. I also don't care about the graphics. I wouldn't care if the whole game looked like a 3DS game, I quite enjoyed the 3DS games.
Perhaps if people stopped complaining about these trivial matters they could focus on the bigger problems.
